Anyway, apart from criticizing the author’s sins, I think the answer to the article’s question is clear. We need something like the UK’s National Health Service. It is clear we desperately need more caregivers for our elderly, and many younger folks need jobs. If hands-on care isn’t your thing, we’ll still need pharmacy delivery drivers, lab techs, public transportation drivers (because if we want seniors to stop driving once they’re not safe, we’ve got find ways for them to get where they need to go). But once again, like so many seeming obvious solutions to our problems, it requires taxing the wealthy more and investing that money in our whole country. Which seems to be impossible in this oligarchic system we’ve got now.
