Did you actually read the article? Because I did exactly that — drew the clear line from McDonald’s using the “dumb people sue for any old thing” excuse to push through tort reform. Now people — like my own mother, who was rendered nearly blind because of a botched cataract surgery — can’t get any justice for being harmed.

As for the examples you give — well, how did those suits go? Did the plaintiffs win? Did they even go to court, or did the judges dismiss them? I don’t know how Irish courts work, but I’m willing to bet a judge and/or jury wouldn’t hand down guilty verdicts and awards if the plaintiff was just being an idiot.
