Don’t accuse me of things I have not done, and will not do — I didn’t write about how happy he seemed because he was white, I wrote about it because that was the image he portrayed to the world. That’s why his crime was so shocking to everyone. If he were a Black man, I wouldn’t have written one letter differently. In fact, if you bothered to read any of my other stories, you’d see that this exact double standard is something I frequently speak out against.
