First, your beliefs don't matter. The cold hard facts are that children born into poverty are EXTREMELY unlikely to move out of it.
Second, re: the cost of college: you clearly have no idea how colleges are funded. Ever since the 1980s, goverment has systematically stripped its funding of higher education. The feds give out less finanical aid and the states give out less funding. As a result, colleges have had to lean on students to pay more for tuition. On top of that, most colleges have swallowed the capitalist Kool-Aid and run their institutions like corporations, seeking to maximize profits rather than provide a quality education - which also raises the costs to students.
And finally, here's a fun fact about single mothers: not all of them were single when they had kids! Shocking I know - some men die, some leave, some become abusers that women have to leave in fear of their lives. And some mothers had their children when they could afford them, then unforseen circumstances - i.e., life - happened. People get hurt, lose jobs, and other calamities that can drastically reduce their earnings.
Try crawling out from under your rock before you judge those of us who have to live out here in the real world.
