Great article! I had to grapple with this same question when I was writing my book (The Devil in Black Creek, if you’re interested: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074MD14YG). Truly it’s “Southern Gothic,” but since that’s not a real publishing category, I had to find which one fit. I ended up calling it a thriller because even though some supernatural elements appear, they aren’t really central to the plot. I mean, it’s set in the South — ghosts *are* part of reality here. ;)
