Great piece. I’d add that it kind of exposes the utter pablum that is most creative writing programs. The one at my university (where I took a couple of classes) was the same kind of thing: teachers’ pets who wrote boring, predictable prose, and critiques that were nothing more than vague “feelings” without any real, constructive feedback. I took journalism instead, and I think it was much better — it actually teaches you to be a better writer, in a concrete, useful way.
