I can't like your story hard enough. I wrote for Medium for three years (about true crime, mostly), and steadily grew my following into the five figures. My income steadily improved, too...for a while.

But then they changed their payment model to just, well, not pay us as much. At all. My income plummeted to literally 1% of what it had previously earned, despite getting the same number of views, and despite me gaining more followers.

Sure, they tried to correct for their colossal blunder by offering incentive programs for a few months, but when they quit doing that, I was left with earnings that were dropping like a stone. Not nearly enough to justify continuing to provide them with content. So in December of last year, I quit.

I don't know WTF Medium is trying to do, exactly, or why, but I can't continue to support such an awful platform.
