I see that same pattern...as soon as I start hearing (or reading) that story, I GTFO. Because it's obvious that they, the men, f-ed up, and can't or won't take responsibility, and instead paint their ex as the problem.
But I disagree that men and women are so different. We aren't really, but our parents and society spend a great deal of energy trying to convince us of just that, which is probably the #1 cause of why so many relationships between men and women don't work out. Leave gender out of it. Behave like an authentic human, and treat your partner the same way. But too many folks - including Chris Watts - just can't make that leap out of these gendered boxes.
