His wife and kids apparently knew nothing about his crimes. Which isn’t too hard to believe. Reports are that he was a very controlling husband and father, so she wouldn’t have been able to ask questions even if she was suspicious.

Yes, the vast majority were female, though there were a few male victims.

As for the theft, there was the box of women’s jewelry — most of it not worth much — that was found in his home. Unfortunately, only one of the victims’ families was able to get their mother’s ring back, only because they had a picture of her with it on. The rest were too common to be identified. As well, several victims’ families noted that their mother/father would have just gotten their pension check, but it wouldn’t be found anywhere after their deaths. Very suspicious all around.

I haven’t heard of these categories, but if I had to take a stab at it (sorry), I’d put Shipman in the power/control seeker type. But I can’t say for sure.
