Interesting perspective. I hadn’t heard about the Genovese murder until I was probably in my teens. And you’re right, it definitely contributed to that stereotype of New Yorkers, at least in my mind. It wasn’t until I researched the story that I learned it was all based on this one news story that was not very accurate — and the context of the time and place as well. Just goes to show, most things are never that simple!
