That is the question a lot of people have been trying to figure out. Did they have battered wives’ syndrome (like Stockholm syndrome)? Or did they know they couldn’t survive as single mothers back then? Or were they just as depraved?

My totally speculative guess is a combo of 1 and 2. But we’ll never know.
