That’s a great question! I hadn’t read exactly how he helped open the package. But I’m assuming since the defense didn’t bring that point up, it must not have been with the pocket knife. But honestly I don’t know.

I’m sure we’re all guilty of hearing something awful, but not following up on it. We’re only human! But it is the news media’s JOB to follow up, and to refrain from spreading disinformation. The problem is, they (reporters) are, often, far too trusting of officials, and unless it’s related to a specific scandal, they take officials’ words for it at face value. Police can’t be faulted too much — they’re going to err on the side of safety every time. And the press just goes along with it. It’s up to us to get the facts straight!
