This is a great article. The idea that somehow what we’re passionate about will magically generate enough money to pay the bills is a myth, and too many people (including me) have bought it, and are miserable. Better to design a life that sucks less and leaves more time and energy to do the things you’re passionate about on the side. Which I’m still working on.
One quibble: in the 18th century, we did have doctors and artists and writers and ferriers and… there were choices (for men anyway). Just different ones than we have now.
