Totally. We had it bad coming and going - so many of us had to live through divorces (and the subsequent shitshow of being the kids of single moms) - while Reagan and Very Important politicians said we were all welfare queens while they slashed the safety net.
But even middle-class kids back then lived in a dangerous world. No bike helmets, no car seats or seatbelts, toys that could seriously kill you. We were often left unsupervised for hours, outdoors...and if we went missing, the cops just assumed we ran away. The 1980s were the peak years for serial killers, BTW.
So now we sound like our grandparents who had to walk to school barefoot in the snow uphill both ways. But damn, it burns my ass to be called "privileged."
